why this guy?
Luke set up 'Your Management System' because that describes his priority and speciality.
His expertise stems from industry leading experience in the highly regulated aviation industry; but many people have experience in management systems, so what makes Luke different? He's different because he'll guide you to developing your management system. He won't just give you a template and then an invoice, he'll collaborate with you throughout the journey so you can better understand and thus deliver your vision and mission.
Many people misunderstand the importance of an effective management system, but not you, hence why you're here today.
Repeat success; Your Management System
about the founder
Hi, I'm Luke and I'm really glad you're here.
I created Your Management System because I wholeheartedly believe that every company, from the local bakery to the largest multinational airline, is defined by its management system. What separates them isn't just the goods and services they sell, but how they sell them.
‘You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems.’ - Atomic Habits author, James Clear
I love this quote because it reminds me that big goals are rarely achieved through sheer will, and instead are entirely dependent on what habits an individual puts in place. I believe organisations are no different. Your management system is the product of your organisation's habits. So a company may have the grandest ambitions, best intentions, and most talented people, which is a good place to be, but it isn't what makes a great company. Most unsuccessful companies have these same ingredients.
Whether you realise it or not, every organisation you've ever known, worked for, or seen on TV - has one or more management systems. The main difference is whether they understand this and operate in a way that repeats success, or limps along without realising why their competition is taking market share. And finally, from an aviation standpoint, I believe that the management system is the discriminator in what separates an airline you trust from one you don't.
In summary, I created Your Management System to help you repeat success.
Here's my story...
Starting lessons at a young age to overcome my fear of flying, I was the youngest pilot to go solo, at 16, and later became the UK’s youngest pilot at 17. Realising my passion for aviation, I began the commercial journey by attending an intense 14 month 'ab-initio' course in Spain where I gained the coveted Commercial Pilot Licence and Instrument Rating.
While flying was fun, I recognised the importance of broadening my knowledge beyond the cockpit and so my commercial pilot training was part of a much wider 3-year degree in Air Transport Operations at City University London. Completing this intense programme gave me both the technical skills required to fly an aircraft and grasp the fundamentals of how an airline works.
I enjoyed a relatively short spell as a pilot, flying high profile clients around Europe in private jets, and then moved into the specialised operations sector. I will never forget looking at a screen in the Ops Control Centre, seeing the GPS-tracked locations of the fleet scattered around the world, performing surveys, aerodrome inspections and search and rescue. It was very inspiring and not long into my career in specialised operations I was offered an opportunity in safety and compliance. This was a career defining moment because while I enjoyed flying, I also felt the need to expand my horizons.
This decision opened my eyes to what a management system is and I never looked back. Over the next decade, I got hands on experience in almost every part of an airline (pilot, task specialist, operations, training, dispatch, compliance, safety, and continuing airworthiness) and this enabled me to successfully deliver a broad range of projects. Realising that high standards facilitates growth, I established multiple management systems and brought them together into an integrated management system. The Management Systems department grew accordingly as it fuelled the company's ascent to become the top ranking operator in its sector.
After 3 years as Head of Management Systems, the group entrusted me with establishing a subsidiary in Malta with the purpose of mirroring the privileges of the main entity in the UK. Starting with just the Certificate of Registration, I established the principal place of business, hired some amazing people, and led Malta's first specialised airborne operator to secure the group's multi-million euro post-BREXIT future in Europe as Accountable Manager and Managing Director.
Having achieved my primary objectives; I packed my bags and travelled Asia with my wife, Nicola. Now based in the UK, I established Your Management System as a consultancy enterprise with the mission of helping you realise your organisation's own growth potential through the effective development of your management system. I can do this via:
- Directorial duties
- Leadership and management duties (incl. Form 4 Nominated Persons)
- Strategy development and implementation
- Establishment and development of Safety Management Systems (SMS, incl. policy, assurance, risk management, promotion)
- Regulatory compliance of operations (Part-ORO, Part-SPA, Part-CAT, Part-SPO, Part-NCC)
- Regulatory compliance of airworthiness (Part-M, Part-CAMO, Part-145)
- Regulatory compliance of dangerous goods (Part-SPA.DG, IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations)
- Creation and development of approved manuals and expositions (OM, MSM/SMM, CAME, MOE)
- Onboarding of aircraft (incl. registration and airworthiness compliance matters)
- Project managing tender submissions and bid writing
